Schutzhund is a sport that requires a lot of training. But improving your dog’s obedience, tracking, and protection skills on your own isn’t efficient nor fun. Joining a club will allow you to work with and learn from like-minded and experienced handlers.
Now you just have to find one near you. Unfortunately, there are not a lot of Schutzhund clubs in Connecticut. So let’s take a look at your options around this area to enjoy this dog sport and train with other handlers!

What about the other club on the list above? Don’t worry. I will get into that just in a minute.
Quinebaug Schutzhund Club
It’s a great group of people that share a passion for Schutzhund training. Their goals are to promote this canine sport, preserve the GSD working breed standards, make better dog owners, and inform the public about Schutzhund.
Where Is This Club Located?
They are situated in northeast Connecticut, more precisely in Pomfret Center. It’s a town in Windham County, in the middle of the Last Green Valley. To give you an idea, it’s about 1 hour from Hartford, CT, and Providence, RI.
I only heard good things about the Quinebaug Schutzhund Club and the people that are in it. If you want more information, you should check out their website or Facebook Page. You can also contact them directly to understand how and when you can visit or join their club.
Ocean State Schutzhund Club
Although they technically are not based in Connecticut, this club is currently training in Suffield, CT. I found that information on their Facebook Page, where they are very active. That’s why I decided to include them in the list above.
Formed in 1982, they are the oldest Schutzhund club in the New England Region. Their goal is to promote and preserve the working ability of the German Shepherd Dog. They are training in north Connecticut near Springfield, MA, and Hartford, CT, so it could be a good club to consider if you live in that area.
